Dear New Manager

I’m thrilled to accept your job offer and eager to start this new chapter. But before I dive in, I want to have an open and honest conversation about how this is going to work best—for both of us.

I’m going to give my all to this role, but I know that the first few months are crucial. If things aren’t going as expected—if you don’t think I’m the right fit—I need you to give me a heads-up. Don’t wait until things are completely off-track. Let me know early so I can prepare for what’s next. I want the chance to fix things if possible, but if that’s not in the cards, I need the opportunity to make a smooth transition. I left another job to join you, and I turned down other offers because I believe in this role. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll be facing a big disruption, and I need your help in managing that.

And honestly, if we get to that point, I’d appreciate a little walking cash to soften the landing. I’m not asking for a lot, just enough to cover the gap while I figure out my next steps. It’s only fair—after all, I committed to you, and you’re asking me to do the same. But if it turns out we’re not a match, that support could make all the difference in helping me transition smoothly.

I’m ready to give my best and be a strong part of this team, but I need to know you’ve got my back. Let’s be transparent with each other—if things aren’t working, let’s talk about it early. And if it comes to parting ways, help me manage that disruption in a way that’s fair.

Looking forward to working together.

Sincerely,
Your new hire
